Gold Museum

At this point of the day, it’s about 3pm.  I took a bus from the Golden Waterfall back to Jinguashi.  I walked around the park.  They didn’t have an English guide, but they have an app, where the audio is in English.  Some of the exhibits had English under the Chinese.

One of the displays in one of the exhibits.

It was a very educational place.  The town used to be a gold mine.  You could walk around and look at the kind of housing that the miners lived in.  For 50NT, you could also walk through a mining tunnel and get the whole experience.  I didn’t do that, but I did walk in and out the exhibits and buildings.  I learned that it rains 200 days out of a year in Jinguashi.  I suppose I was very lucky that it was sunny that day.

This is me, in a mining cart.

The Gold Park/Gold museum is pretty big.  You could also climb a bunch of steps and go see a shrine, which my co worker said it was very cool, but I didn’t go there.  I did, however, stand in a quick line to put my hands on a large gold bar.  As I stood in line, I got thinking as to how many people put their hands on that bar of gold, and likely in the same spot every time.  I wanted to find out how many visitors a day would put their hands on that bar.  Let’s hope their hands were clean.

In case you wanted to know, this gold bar is worth 254,005,900 NTD or $7,697,148 USD.

Afterwards, I ate at the restaurant in the Gold Park.  It seemed popular as I stood in line.  I think the main attraction was the miner’s lunchbox.  You could take home the souvenir bowl or something? I’m not sure.  I ordered sweet and sour beef ribs for 180 NTD.

After that I was on my way out of the park, when I saw a stand selling kimchi french fries.  I justified it by telling myself I was trying something new.  Who knew you could put kimchi on french fries and did it taste good?  Well, I tried it and it was okay.  If you like spicy, you might like it, but I think I prefer honey mustard.

Taipei

I finally made my way back to the bus stop and headed back to Taipei.  Because all I do is eat, I went to this dim sum/dessert place.  It’s called TimHoWan.  If you’re ever in Taipei, I highly recommend going.  Their food is really good! The wait can be long at certain times, but it wasn’t too bad on a monday night at 6:45pm.  TimHoWan is at Taipei Main Station, Exit M8 (if you’re coming from the subway).
